We all have enough effects to last a lifetime. Many of the world's top mentalists are having huge international careers performing the same three to ten pieces on stages around the world.

This class gives a special focus on:

  • how to build a mentalism show for stage
  • how to build a mentalism show for strolling
  • how to define a character, how to create a persona
  • how to create a mentalism product that you can perform now.

Some classic mentalism effects with new twists will be taught. However, it is assumed that you already have at least a working knowledge of some mentalism or have read at least one book from the field of mentalism before attending the class. (If you haven't, one will be assigned to you.)

Theater techniques will be discussed, and participation is expected. This is a class all about getting your mentalism show out of your head and ready for performance!

Taught online through Zoom on three Thursdays, June 15, June 22, and June 29 at 6:00 p.m., Pacific time (9:00 p.m. Eastern).
Each session is two hours.

Paul Draper will teach you how to get reviews like these: "Paul Draper was great at our party, seriously really wonderful. I want to dig through the magical literature to find out how he accomplishes the things he does. I look forward to seeing another one of his shows soon.”

–J. J. Abrams Director

“In my country you could start a religion with what you do.”

–Devinder Kishore India VP of Marketing, Nokia

“I have only rarely seen an audience of young people as engaged, educated, and enthralled by a guest speaker as by Paul Draper. He most certainly is not somebody who will easily — if ever — be forgotten. I personally was held spellbound by Paul; and I can’t wait to invite him back at his earliest convenience.”

–Harvey Goldblatt, Ph.D. Chair, Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures, Master, Pierson College, Yale University

“While watching Paul Draper’s Zoom show, Penn Jillette uttered, ‘Very nice!’ many times. This is the highest praise he has given to a Zoom performer.”

–Emily Jillette

Week 1, June 15: Finding Your Inner Mentalist.
We will discuss the core characters, themes, motivations, and methods of mentalism. This is the building blocks class from which all others will be built. You will want a notebook and a working camera and microphone to be ready for discussion. Mentalism is more about the character, backstory, and skillset then it is about the individual effects. This class is your opportunity to explore these relationships deeply so you can succeed and stand out among the crowded field of mentalism.

Week 2, June 22: The Mentalism Show of Your Dreams.
This class will be filled with a deeper discussion of the effects in mentalism that are built from the methods we learned in the last class. Additionally, we will be looking at show structure, flow, requirements, and the venues where mentalism can best be presented. This class is a great time to discuss disclaimers, psychic vs. skeptic, and theatrical scalability! Today we learn the tools to design our shows.

Week 3, June 29: Going Public!
In week three we will learn about adding final touches and theatrical elements into our shows, taking them to the next level, and getting them out into the real world. This class will allow us to talk about how to get audiences to come to our performances through publicity stunts, PR, marketing, and especially mentalism for radio, TV, and social media. This day is about putting the shows on their feet and getting them in front of audiences.

Like all of Paul Draper’s classes, he is focused on helping you take action by bringing your unique character and story to your audiences!
